Wrist Arthroscopy
Articles and resources for Wrist Arthroscopy in Orthopedic Surgery.
Wrist arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat various wrist conditions. Common reasons for considering this procedure include persistent wrist pain, ligament injuries, cartilage damage, and certain types of wrist arthritis. By using a small camera and instruments inserted through tiny incisions, surgeons can visualize the inside of the wrist joint and address issues that may not be easily seen through traditional imaging techniques.
During the procedure, the patient is typically placed under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes small incisions in the wrist and inserts an arthroscope, a thin tube with a camera, to view the joint’s interior. Depending on the findings, the surgeon may use specialized tools to repair damaged tissues, remove loose fragments, or perform other necessary interventions. The duration of the surgery usually ranges from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, and patients may be able to go home on the same day.
The benefits of wrist arthroscopy include reduced recovery time, less postoperative pain, and minimal scarring compared to open surgery. Patients often experience quicker rehabilitation and a return to normal activities. However, like any surgical procedure, wrist arthroscopy carries certain risks, such as infection, nerve damage, or complications related to anesthesia. It is essential to discuss these potential risks and benefits with a healthcare provider to understand the procedure’s suitability for individual circumstances.
